Energy Transition: Inevitable Reality, Urgent Necessity and Tremendous Opportunity for Sustainable Economic Growth and Social Development for all
By Dr. Mostafa AlGuezeri, Managing Director for Gulf and Maghreb at Hitachi Energy
Energy transition has become widely acknowledged as an inevitable reality, presenting significant challenges that the world must come together and address collectively. However, these challenges also create tremendous opportunities for sustainable economic growth and social development, and environmental preservation as the world moves toward achieving a net-zero future.
Energy transition over the years has never been easy and typically spanned decades. However, the climate change we are facing today demands a faster and more extensive response, requiring a systematic, collaborative and comprehensive transformation in how we produce and consume energy. The foundation for this transition is clear: clean, reliable and affordable electricity. This foundation highlights the importance of decarbonising power grids and electrifying transport, heating and many industrial processes. Additionally, the production of hydrogen, which offers vast amounts of energy and versatile applications, facilitates the introduction of green energy into sectors historically known to be the highest producers of greenhouse gas emissions.
As a global technology leader in the energy sector, Hitachi Energy recognises that our shared responsibility to pave the way toward a sustainable energy future for current and future generations is a shared responsibility. At Hitachi Energy, we understand the pressing need to develop sustainable technologies that support the decarbonisation and digitisation of energy systems. We also assist in navigating the complex energy landscape by using the proper combination of connected products, software solutions and digitally enabled services.
We are also executing several projects across the UAE and the region, including “Project Lightning", which aims to enable the transfer of cleaner and more efficient power from the mainland to islands and is being implemented in collaboration with ADNOC. Hitachi Energy is committed to supporting the UAE’s initiatives in its journey toward a sustainable future by implementing leading projects in energy, green mobility digitisation and decarbonisation, accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. The UAE has demonstrated a strong commitment to transitioning to a cleaner energy ecosystem in line with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative objectives.
Our participation in the 26th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in early October, aligns with our ongoing efforts to support the sustainability goals of the UAE and beyond. At WETEX, Hitachi Energy will showcase a wide range of industry-leading solutions and services that support the energy transition, while sharing our expertise and innovations in advancing the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible, and secure. During our fruitful collaboration with DEWA over the past 30 years, we have enabled a sustainable energy future – for today’s generations and those to come.
At Hitachi Energy, we continue to assist our partners, customers, and stakeholders worldwide to reduce their carbon footprint through innovative technology and digital energy management solutions. This aligns with our efforts to positively affect the environment and society by committing to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all by 2030.
